The Reproduction of Labour in Elderly Care Jobs: The Case of Live-in Domestic Workers from Ukraine in Greece

Abstract

L'articolo intende analizzare la riproduzione del lavoro delle badanti nel loro impiego di basso status. A tale scopo verranno esaminate le conseguenze del lavoro domestico in regime di convivenza sulle donne migranti provenienti dall'Ucraina, impiegate come badanti nell'assistenza a persone anziane ad Atene. Lo studio utilizza un approccio marx-weberiano focalizzato sia sulle condizioni di lavoro che sulle percezioni dei lavoratori migranti. L'analisi suggerisce che le esigenze emotive correlate al lavoro domestico fanno sì che le lavoratrici percepiscano i loro compiti come un'estensione dei rapporti e degli obblighi familiari. Questi rapporti di lavoro sono definiti come "pseudo-familiari" e sono alla base dell'atteggiamento di deferenza nel lavoro domestico. In combinazione con le barriere strutturali del mercato del lavoro, la deferenza rappresenta l'elemento soggettivo dell'intrappolamento dei migranti nella loro posizione lavorativa.
