Student jobs can take numerous forms. One of the main differentiation criteria is whether they are bound to the studies or not. According to the French Labour force surveys 2013-2015 (enquêtes Emploi) of the French national institute for statistical and economic studies, among working students, over a half have an activity scheduled by the studies (training, apprenticeship, internship, etc.). Other students have an occasional or regular non-education-related-activity which corresponds mostly to unskilled and part-time jobs. However, such an activity may represent a heavy load, and may be a barrier to complete one?s studies. Workers? children, who are more likely to be involved in this type of activity and whose success in higher education is often presented as fragile, may be more affected than those from other social classes.
