Abstract

The paper examines the significance of the revolution without leadership that Egypt has just experienced. It outlines the importance of analyzing the 18 days of the uprising in the reformulation of the general relations between the State and society in Egypt since 2005, with in particular a process of increasing freedom for the media and a growing number of social protests. It analyzes the interplay of different actors in the uprising that led President Hosni Mubarak to resign. It questions the dominant political players of the future political process, the army and the Muslim Brotherhood, and finally it raises the hypothesis of the civil nature of the Egyptian revolution.
