Travail des femmes et rapport de genre dans les agricultures familiales : analyse des similitudes entre la France et le Cameroun

Abstract

The article advocates that France and Cameroon may mirror each other when analyzing the gender effects of agricultural modernization policies. The common denominator of all family farming is the confrontation between family relationships and a constraining employment relationship for women when they are both household heads and farm managers. Social evolutions (such as the increasing autonomy of young people and women) have made it harder for social relationships which insufficiently value women?s work in the context of agricultural modernization to endure both in the North and the South. Even though women have been marginalized, they have the necessary resources to act. The current context of agroecology provides the opportunity for women?s skills and knowledge to be recognized. Women?s movements support such a production system, along with equal rights.
