Abstract

How the introduction of the Indian autorickshaw in Egypt sparked the establishment of a transnational chain of value in the urban margins of the Nile Delta ? Following the trajectory of an Indian trader in Egypt, this article shows improbable continuities and connections between places networks and people networks. It mainly aims to initiate a discussion on an epistemological rupture that is still difficult to grasp, corresponding to the passage of a ?globalization from below?, limited to a few regions of the world, and led by pioneer migrant-entrepreneurs, to a general globalization of the framework of exchange.
