Recherche et pédagogie. Exploration d’un lien plus complexe qu’il n’y paraît

Abstract

How do research and education in management combine in the specific context of French business schools? Our qualitative study, conducted among the faculty of a top business school, shows that if a wide range of possible links between teaching and research exists, French business schools currently keep a pedagogical model which is not conducive to customization ? which is yet necessary for research to be part of education ? and that creates competition between teaching and publishing. We also noted that the priority given to research activities may penalize education by diverting resources from this activity and potentially encouraging faculty to quit. We also demonstrate the existence of a link between three constructs: self-identity of faculty members, their intellectual paradigm (schematically: positivist or constructivist) and the degree of convergence between their teaching and their research.
