Agglomération et politiques régionales de soutien de l'offre

  • Sylvie Charlot
  • Carl Gaigné

This paper aims to determine if central authorities can favour the location of some economic activities in periphery areas. In order to do it, we build a theoretical framework close to the Krugman and Venables’ one [1995], explicitly introducing regional policy of a central authority. We show that a regional policy of fiscal aid is less efficient, in order to reduce regional inequalities, than a regional policy increasing firm productivity. Nevertheless, this policy can counteract the excessive concentration of firms if it targets competitive and labour intensive sectors. Classification JEL : R13, R58
