Royaume-Uni : l'austérite budgétaire sans fin

Abstract

En ce début de printemps, la croissance britannique est quasiment nulle. Le PIB a augmenté de 0,3 % seulement en moyenne annuelle en 2012, après 1 % en 2011. A la fin 2012, le PIB restait encore près de 3 % en dessous de son niveau d’avant-crise, celui du premier trimestre 2008. Cependant, le taux de chômage, au sens du BIT, a baissé de 0,5 point entre la fin 2011 et la fin 2012, pour atteindre 7,8 %. Malgré des capacités de production sous-utilisées, une faible demande et un ralentissement de la hausse des salaires nominaux (à peine plus de 1 % en rythme annuel en 2012), l’inflation, mesurée selon l’indice des prix à la consommation harmonisés (IPCH), est restée relativement soutenue, sous l’effet des hausses des prix des matières premières et alimentaires ainsi que, plus récemment, de la hausse des frais d’inscription universitaires.
