Abstract

The governance of the entrepreneurial process is a key factor of success. Based on a case of a firm takeover that was followed by the firm?s bankruptcy, our research shows how the overconfidence bias and the escalation of commitments can lead the entrepreneur to ignore and even neutralize some standard or cognitive governance mechanisms, taking the risk of beginning the entrepreneurial process without the financial and cognitive resources required for success, and delaying stopping a failing entrepreneurial process. The case highlights the possible weaknesses of the entrepreneurial governances, focusing on the firms? takeover as a mode of entering into entrepreneurship.
