Abstract

There may exist situations where identical (or nonidentical) persons are in renewed interactions and where, at each period, new identical (or nonidentical) persons may arrive. These are situations where no one knows ex ante how many persons will be present at each period. In industrial organization it can correspond to oligopolies with random entries and types of producers. One may wonder, for example, what final income incumbents may expect to obtain at the end of a certain number of periods. We propose a finite and infinite horizon modeling to provide an answer to this question. Then, we illustrate how this could interest industrial organization by developing the case of the Cournot duopoly, followed by a simplified example of a taxi market. JEL classification: L13, C71, K20, L51, L91, D45.
