La modélisation des systèmes urbains : une approche par la physique statistique

Abstract

The increasing availability of data in a variety of areas has allowed us to glimpse or renew quantitative approaches to many phenomena. This is particularly true for urban systems where different devices at different scales produce a very large amount of potentially useful data to build a ?new science of cities.? A new problem that we must solve is then to extract useful information from these huge datasets and to build theoretical models to explain the empirical observations. In this paper, we discuss an approach inspired by statistical physics and illustrate it with examples of the spatial distribution of activity in cities and urban mobility.
