La politique agricole commune : objectifs, évolutions et paradoxes

Abstract

Of the 168 billion euros that made up the European Union’s budget in 2021, about 56 were earmarked for the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). By far the Union’s biggest source of expenditure, this support policy for farmers is also one of the founding stones on which the EU was built in the aftermath of the Second World War. Since 1962, it has structured European agriculture at both national and community levels. This box examines the role of the CAP in the structural changes taking place in the agricultural sector.
