Abstract

This article aims to understand corporate social responsibility (CSR) as a mechanism facilitating the socioeconomic transactions of logging SMEs through the role played by various stakeholders. Within the framework of a qualitative approach in Cameroon, we explored the foundations of CSR as a social regulatory device that structures interactions between various actors, as well as the challenges related to its clarification. Two CSR logics emerged from our analyses. The first relates to upstream CSR, which leads to the definition of the contractual foundations of all forestry transactions and imposes itself as a mechanism that connects various actors with the exploitation process. The second is downstream CSR, which is part of the CSR approach as prescribed by institutions and helps maintain transaction mechanisms.
