Effets des prix et des revenus sur le recours aux soins au Cameroun

Abstract

This paper analyzes the effects that health care costs and people?s income have on accessing health care in Cameroon. A multinomial logit model with five choices (self-medication, traditional healers, public health center, public hospital, private institution) is applied. The results show that health care costs, along with people?s income, level of education, distance from the healthcare facility, and area of residence affect populations? health care choices. In terms of public policies, authorities should on the one hand focus on improving the population?s level of education, and on the other hand should increase people?s income by implementing development programs that create job opportunities. Moreover, it is important to increase the amount of healthcare infrastructure.
