Abstract

The malian cotton belt is often considered as an homogeneous entity which prosperity or decline only depends on the cotton production. But the South of Mali is a diversified agricultural region where strong public policies, like decentralization, have taken place while the cotton sector was going through a deep crisis. This conjunction results in spatial inequalities and a volatile situation while the sustainability of decentralization policies is no more secured than the cotton development.
