Amnéville, de la cité industrielle à la cité touristique : quel devenir pour les territoires urbains en déprise ?

Abstract

The wasteland theme raises serious questions about the reconquest and the image of a territory. The atypical case of the old industrial city of Amnéville in Lorraine lets us wonder about the transformation of a territory into leisuretourism within the process of urban and regional renovation. The tourist option chosen for rebuilding Amnéville is a clear example of a bold bet taken in the decision to transform wastelands of an industrial town without any faintest tourist attractiveness. Being surrealist and very risky at the beginning, this economic reconversion looks like an act of hope. The town of Amnéville has invented its new future. Facing the industrial set back, the "empty" space can be considered with strong development potential and be reintroduced in the urban and regional dynamics.
