Les quartiers de l’innovation, de la créativité et du multimédia : quel rôle pour l’urbanisme dans le renouvellement des ressources territoriales à Montréal ?

Abstract

Through a comparative study of three ancient post-industrial neighbourhoods of Montreal, each reconverted towards cultural, creative, and knowledge-based economic activities, this article looks into investigates the dynamics of the economics agents in the use of territorial resources and the role of urban planning into their renewal. Drawing on archival research and semi-structured interviews, this paper puts forward a few strategies, generally innovative, like vertical zoning, co-management and the mutualisation of spaces, aiming to mitigate the negative externalities related to the use of territorial resources. However, in every case, the intervention led by public authorities in these strategies is not proactive, which are as a result limited, thus requiring rethinking the frameworks and roles of the urban planning inspired by these experiments.
