Abstract

This study assesses the impact of microfinance access on poverty reduction in the peri-urban districts of Lomé in Togo. We use the propensity score matching method with a survey of 639 client and non-client households. Our results reveal that microfinance has had a positive impact on poverty reduction : the monetary income and material wealth of microfinance client households are higher than those of non-client households. These results may help to formulate new policies that help to improve peri-urban livelihoods.
