Abstract

This paper reports on the current status of economic education in Romania contrasting with the situation existing in the USA. Relevant information is provided with respect to content, methods, and materials used in economic education in schools and universities in both countries and also with respect to economic education programs management. By providing all this information we want to demonstrate that effective economic education generates incentives for studying economics, according with educational and career choices people make. The paper is focused on a comparative analysis between the status of economic education in American universities and centres for economic education, on one hand and the situation of economic education in Romania. According to the data we had, one of the conclusions of this paper is that economic education is part of formal education and non-formal education too and non-formal educational organizations such as NGO-s or non-profit organisations can attract important resources, even highly qualified teachers and professors, for delivering valuable economic education programs.
