Arabská reakcia na vojenskú porážku v júni 1967

Abstract

Prežitie Egypta po vojne a jeho pevné odhodlanie odolávať Izraelu svedčí o veľkej sile egyptského ľudu, ktorý bol ochotný vydržať ďalšie úsporné opatrenia. Saudská Arábia a Kuvajt na Chartúmskom summite súhlasili, že budú finančne podporovať Egypt, aby Džamál Abdannásir nebol v pokušení uzavrieť s Izraelom separátny mier. Hlavnou úlohou egyptskej vlády bolo vytlačiť Izrael z východného brehu Suezského prieplavu či už pokojne alebo silou. Egyptský vodca však stál pred dilemou bez ohľadu na to, aký prostriedok by použil. Keby sa Egypt pustil do boja s Izraelom pokým ZSSR obnovuje jeho výzbroj, o ktorú prišiel vo vojne, nemal by ofenzívne zbrane, ktoré potrebuje na zatlačenie Izraela. Keby Egypt chcel, aby mu Izrael vrátil Sinajský polostrov, musel by vstúpiť do priamych rokovaní, uznať Izrael a zriecť sa nároku viesť arabské krajiny. Džamál Abdannásir takúto politiku chápal ako kapituláciu pred USA. OSN uviazla v protikladných interpretáciách oboch strán rezolúcie 242 a v rivalite superveľmocí.
