Abstract

Economic and ecologic impact of regionalized production structures within the automotive supply chain. This paper identifies regional production structures within the automotive industry as one important, non-interacting measure to lower the ecological impact of freight transport. After showing important economic impacts beyond the already known transport costs, specific potentials for regionalization within the supply chain are evaluated. Dividing the production of cars into several modules and different supplier stages, a mileage intensity which calculates the ratio between driven vehicle kilometres by duty vehicles and the transport distance helps to assess these potentials on a microscopic level.
