Abstract

The liberalization of the EU's common agricultural policy requires more market orientation of farmers. This has effects on solidarity values and behaviour in the agricultural industry. Cooperatives with solidarity as a cornerstone of their value system face the challenge of responding to these changes. The present article reveals, on the basis of a farmer survey, forms of solidarity in agriculture and shows the influence of market orientation on solidarity values of farmers. Hence, for cooperatives it is possible to develop action plans for long-term membership commitment.
