Abstract

Nutrition of a still growing world population is a central global challenge in the coming decades. It must be the primary objective not only to nourish, but to provide economic participation. Cooperatives are vital instruments for inclusive and sustainable growth. The principle ofmember promotion and the creation of market access and countervailing powers are crucial characteristics. The current challenges closely resemble those in the founding years of cooperatives in the 19th century.
