Abstract

Sustainability is becoming more and more important for the long-run competitiveness of tourism destinations. None of the existing models for a sustainable tourism management is suited for an application in tourism destinations. Therefore, the most important challenges are identified by a qualitative empirical survey in four Swiss tourism destinations in this article. A systematic process approach, a simple monitoring and a consequent participation of all stakeholders are, amongst others, of importance.
