Abstract

Climate change and its possible impacts upon the tourism industry are discussed in various different contexts. Reactions of industry stakeholders are divided into adaptation and mitigation strategies. Different stakeholder groups contribute in manifold ways to this ongoing discussion due to varying perceptions of climate change and climate change induced impacts upon tourism. In the course of the Alpine Space research initiative ClimAlpTour, 65 tourism stakeholders from three destinations in Tyrol and Vorarlberg in Austria were invited to participate in group discussions regarding perceived climate change impacts and possible strategies and measures corresponding to these influences. Stakeholders in all three destinations prefer to apply adaptation measures instead of mitigation measure as a reaction to climate change.
