Abstract

The network idea is generally understood as an enhancement of the resource oriented approach. When developing tourism products on the basis of cultural attractions networks help to coordinate the process by integrating different stakeholders - some of them with a nonprofit orientation. The basic principle of a network strategy in cultural tourism is to integrate the endogenous cultural potentials and the suppliers of the service chain to create unique product. This article focuses on understanding networks in cultural tourism. Based on a case study from South Tyrol different types of cooperation and network structures are analysed. By means of qualitative interviews the relationships are identified and commented by the stakeholders. An insight in different symbiotic relations as well as the organisational and communication structure of networks is generated.
