Abstract

The absorptive capacity is considered to be a key factor of a firm’s innovation capability. Since its introduction in 1989 the concept has increasingly gained importance and has been regarded in various research fields. Despite the growing interest in the concept of absorptive capacity, its determinants remain contentious. This paper aims filling this gap. It presents results from a multiple case study on the determinants of absorptive capacity and compares the results with previous research findings. In the concluding part the paper provides suggestions on improving a firm’s absorptive capacity.
