Determinanten der Weiterbildungsbeteiligung älterer Erwerbstätiger

Abstract

Der Beitrag zeigt mit Daten des Berichtssystems Weiterbildung 2000, dass die altersspezifische Beteiligung an formeller beruflicher Weiterbildung on-the-job je nach Anlass der Teilnahme variiert: Die Partizipation an Einarbeitungs- und vor allem Aufstiegsqualifizierungen erweist sich als negativ altersabhängig, während die Beteiligung an Anpassungsfortbildungen in keinem signifikanten Zusammenhang mit dem Alter steht. Auch ältere Erwerbstätige investieren folglich in ihr Humankapital - allerdings selektiv und unter spezifischen Bedingungen: Mit steigendem Alter gewinnen positive Einstellungen gegenüber der eigenen Lernfähigkeit als Teilnahmevoraussetzungen an Bedeutung. Zudem gibt die Qualität technologischer Innovationen den Ausschlag darüber, ob eine formelle Weiterbildung überhaupt erforderlich wird. Sind neue Arbeitsaufgaben z.B. mit der vorangehenden Tätigkeit verwandt, kann die Umstellung von älteren Erwerbstätigen teilweise durch einen Transfer ihres Erfahrungswissens bewältigt werden.
