Zwischen Erwerbsarbeit und Eigenarbeit

Abstract

Der Beitrag steht im Kontext der soziologischen Debatte um Arbeitsgesellschaft und Zukunft der Arbeit; sein Thema ist die sich verändernde Bedeutung der Arbeit als Vergesellschaftungsinstanz. Hierbei wird zunächst nachgezeichnet, wie die ursprünglich negativ bewertete Arbeit mit dem Übergang zur Moderne positiviert und in Gestalt der Erwerbsarbeit zu einer zentralen Vergesellschaftungsinstanz avanciert. Am Beispiel Deutschlands werden dann empirische Befunde zur Entwicklung von Erwerbsbeteiligung, Arbeitsformen und Strukturwandel der Normalarbeit präsentiert, die z.T. für eine veränderte Relevanz der Erwerbsarbeit im 21. Jahrhundert sprechen. Angesichts des Wandels der Produktionsstruktur, des sich verändernden Erwerbsarbeitsvolumens, der Flexibilisierung der Arbeitsorganisation und der veränderten Einstellung zur Erwerbsarbeit - so die abschließende These - spricht zwar nichts für ein Ende der Arbeitsgesellschaft, aber viel für eine Relativierung der Erwerbsarbeit bei gleichzeitiger Aufwertung anderer Arbeitsformen.
