Información asimétrica y el mercado de crédito

Abstract

El objetivo de este trabajo es explorar si la información asimétrica tiene alguna influencia en el crédito que los bancos otorgan al sector privado y que en años recientes ha registrado una caída importante en Bolivia. Se propone una medida para aproximar la probabilidad de repago, la misma que parece tener un significativo poder explicativo sobre el crédito que otorgan los bancos. Esta influencia tiene un efecto en el corto plazo, mientras que en el largo plazo el principal factor determinante del crédito es el nivel de depósitos. Entre los determinantes de la probabilidad de repago se pudieron identificar la competitividad del tipo de cambio y la demanda por emisión que son variables asociadas al desempeño de la economía real. Asimismo, la tasa libor parece tener influencia en la probabilidad de repago. Puesto que la existencia de información asimétrica parece restringir el crédito, la solución debería también contemplar la provisión de mayor información al sistema financiero para poder identificar mejor el verdadero riesgo de los prestatarios.
