Abstract

The importance of innovation has been highly discussed and brought into public`s attention in the last period as it is considered an efficient way of overcoming crises and increasing economic development. In the present paper we will present the state of the art at the level of European Union regarding innovation and innovative regions and compare it to the situation of Romania. Trying to enhance the great results that innovation brings to regional development, we will make policy recommendations in order to persuade Romanian authorities and entrepreneurs to invest more in innovation.
