Abstract

The Central Bureau of Statistics uses ‐ next to their conventional punchcard machines ‐ since 1960 a computer. This computer processes millions ofpunchcards for several monthly and yearly censuses. The influence of the use of this on the work at the Bureau is briefly discussed. Only a very small percentage of time it is used for econometrical work and other statistical research. An analysis of the savings‐habits of dutch families is given as an example of a small research‐job.
