Seeing Heritage Management through Systems Science

Abstract

Heritage is influenced by a range of multifaceted factors, such as global issues, power dynamics, entangled legal frameworks and multilayered needs. The interplay of these elements creates a challenging environment for heritage managers, who must navigate a web of stakeholders with diverse interests and values. This paper suggests that systems science can facilitate research and decision‐making in such a complex and dynamic field. To this end, we discuss the applicability of systems science to heritage management as a fundamental step towards future research and analysis.
