Navigating Organizational Change in Crisis: Developing a Bespoke Holistic Change Management Framework

Abstract

This paper explores the critical intersection of crisis management and change management from an organizational perspective, aiming to elucidate how effective change management frameworks can fortify organizations during tumultuous times. Through an exploration of real‐world examples, best practices, current research and the philosophy of Total Systems Intervention, a Bespoke Holistic Change Management Framework is proposed to guide organizations through crisis‐induced changes. The subsequent sections commence with a review of the history and evolution of change management, culminating in a proposed bespoke framework informed by existing literature. Following this, insights gleaned from interviews with practitioners experienced in crisis‐driven change management are discussed, enriching the proposed model. The paper concludes by presenting a refined change management framework tailored for crisis contexts, offering organizations actionable strategies to not only endure but also thrive amidst adversity. This comprehensive exploration equips readers with a deeper comprehension of leveraging change management to safeguard and enhance organizational value in times of crisis, alongside a practical framework for implementation within their organizations.
