Use of Regression Models to Estimate Genetic Parameters and Measures of Familial Resemblance in Man

Abstract

A linear model approach to estimate a set of familial correlations using the method of maximum likelihood is proposed when data are available from nuclear families. The effect of both genetic and phenotypic correlations between parents on the estimated parameters is discussed. Computational forms are developed to estimate the components of the genetic variance. Procedures for testing statistical hypotheses are also presented.
