Abstract

The check‐list and the open response systems of gathering information are compared with respect to yesterday's reading of newspapers and magazines and also with respect to yesterday's viewing. There is evidence of sharp differences between the yields from the two systems and also evidence of oddities within the yield from either of them. The findings appear to have important implications for current research practice.
