Rationalization of secondary services: Measurement of coverage of primary journals and overlap between services

Abstract

Some of the problems involved in the study of journal and journal article overlap of secondary services are discussed in the context of the results of an investigation of overlap in the field of criminology. The use of citation data to form clusters of journals is explored in the design and rationalization of secondary services. Clusters of journals obtained from a study of citations in the field of criminology are compared with the measures of overlap patterns. Conclusions are drawn about the ways in which secondary services can be improved.
