Abstract

The traditional vehicle for the dissemination of information is and has been the printed page. Chemistry, however, has been notoriously refractory to modern printing techniques. In the following, we are proposing an improved method for composing chemical structures on typesetting machines. Besides its advantages in the printing process, this method will produce, as an automatic byproduct, coded tapes of the printed structures, which may be used for chemical information retrieval by computer.
