The holy grail evades the search

Abstract

This paper presents the views and reactions of one traditional librarian to the search for literature control by machine. Everyone in the cultural community with any perceptiveness and vision must be concerned about, possibly even a bit awed by, how much has been written, is being written, and by the rapidity of the quantitative increase. It is natural that man, in his efforts to keep the massive record of his articulate‐ness organized and findable, should look hopefully to the machine which he has bent to his will and needs in so many directions.
