Abstract

Analysis of five metallurgical abstract series provides information on the extent of Soviet contribution to the literature, its distribution by fields, the media in which it appears, and the laboratories from which it evolves. It is observed that the Soviets publish about a quarter of the world's metallurgical literature, that this literature is not thoroughly abstracted or translated by Western agencies, and that a few hundred highly prolific Soviet authors, concentrated in a relatively small group of laboratories, are responsible for a large fraction of the Soviet metallurgical literature.
