Abstract
The purpose of this research work is to study the effect of the exchange rate regimes adopted by Algeria on the macroeconomic variables essential to the economic development, namely: GDP, inflation and unemployment, over the period 1988-2017. That’s why, we, first, used principal component analysis (PCA), in order to highlight important correlations and eliminating redundant variables. After that, we used linear regression models which allowed us to detect the effects of different exchange rate regimes that Algeria adopted during the period 1988-2017 on GDP, inflation and unemployment. Our contribution therefore, states that the intermediate exchange rate regime (managed float) brings better results in terms of GDP and inflation. Whereas, the rigid exchange rate regime is accompanied by a better performance of unemployment rates.
