Abstract

Tourist destinations are experiencing more complex management and greater attractiveness and competitiveness at the local, regional and international levels. These complexities require the sustainable and optimal utilization of the qualifications and resources of a tourism destination. Algeria is a country with the qualifications to develop many types of tourism, such as beach tourism, desert tourism, as well as medical tourism. However, its tourist competitiveness is still lagging behind (118th internationally in 2017). This article highlights the qualifications, conditions and challenges of enhancing the competitiveness of medical tourism destinations in Algeria, in order to highlight the importance of developing this type of tourism which will contribute to the growth of the national economy.
