Information Security Awareness, Organisational Support and Job Performance of Secretarial Professionals in a Digital Workplace, a case of University of Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria

Abstract

This study explored how Information Security Awareness (ISA) and Organizational Support (OS) influence the job performance of secretarial professionals at the University of Ibadan’s digital workspace. Grounded in the Protection Motivation Theory (PMT), Organizational Support Theory (OST), and the Ability–Motivation–Opportunity (AMO) framework, the study extended existing knowledge by addressing a gap in the Nigerian higher education sector through an assessment of the combined predictive roles of Information Security Awareness (ISA) and Organizational Support (OS) in influencing employee performance. A descriptive survey design was used, involving a complete census of 120 secretarial professionals. Data were gathered through a validated questionnaire (Cronbach’s Alpha: 0.875–0.885) and analyzed with descriptive statistics and regression models. Results showed high job performance (weighted mean = 3.78), high ISA (3.66), and moderately high OS (3.13).
