A Study on The Common Education Calendar and Its Impact on Student Employability in D.K. District, Karnataka

The study titled "A Study on the Common Education Calendar and Its Impact on Student Employability in D.K. District, Karnataka" aims to explore how the standardization of academic schedules influences the development of employability skills among students. The research specifically examines whether the common education calendar facilitates systematic academic planning, supports the acquisition of essential employability skills, and aligns effectively with industry expectations. Data was collected from students across various institutions in D.K. District through a structured questionnaire, with a total of 268 distributed and 250 valid responses analysed. Statistical tools, including descriptive analysis and one-sample t-tests, were employed to interpret the data. The findings reveal that while the common education calendar significantly aids in academic and placement planning, it also imposes scheduling constraints that limit students’ participation in industry training and certification programs. Moreover, the calendar’s direct impact on the development of employability skills like communication, teamwork, and time management is found to be statistically insignificant. The study concludes that the current common education calendar, though beneficial in standardizing academic timelines, requires structural adjustments to better support holistic employability development. Recommendations are proposed to introduce flexible industry-integrated learning periods and skill development interventions within the academic calendar.
