Abstract

This paper investigated the implementation of a client/server system, (EnviroView) for management of green infrastructure to facilitate the development of a sustainable urban areas in Enugu State, Nigeria. The aim is to provide simple digital systems for environmental data gathering, grouping, and visualization. EnviroView will bring about a smart city planning and management in line with the Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG 11) on Sustainable Cities and Communities. The research adopted a case study approach in the collection of stakeholder responses using structured questionnaires from urban planners, City officials, and community members. The EnviroView system works well in capturing real time ecological data, maintaining data accuracy providing easy data access and visualization. The general feedback from user groups attested to the usefulness of the system in assisting sustainable urban policies. The research demonstrated that EnviroView if implemented shall advance the data-driven sustainability of cities and provides a stepping stone for innovative environmental management of urban areas, especially, in emerging economies, thus making contribution towards the realization of SDG 11.
