Abstract

Public sector banks have made significant contributions to economic and social progress, but they face challenges that impact their efficiency and effectiveness. Inefficiencies, governance issues, and political interference hinder their performance. To stay relevant, PSBs must adapt to changing market conditions, technological advancements, and evolving regulations in a rapidly evolving financial landscape. This study explores the evolving role, challenges, and future prospects of public sector banks in the modern era, examining their history, institutional dynamics, and policy requirements to inform their strategic direction and future trajectory.
