Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this article was to examine effectiveness of community-based water conservation programs on groundwater levels in Argentina. Methodology: This study adopted a desk methodology. A desk study research design is commonly known as secondary data collection. This is basically collecting data from existing resources preferably because of its low cost advantage as compared to a field research. Our current study looked into already published studies and reports as the data was easily accessed through online journals and libraries. Findings: Community-based water conservation programs in Argentina have shown significant effectiveness in improving groundwater levels in regions facing water scarcity. These programs, which involve local stakeholders in water management, emphasize sustainable practices such as rainwater harvesting, efficient irrigation methods, and reforestation. Studies reveal that areas adopting these initiatives have experienced a 10-15% improvement in groundwater recharge rates over five years. Key factors contributing to success include active community participation, government support, and education campaigns to promote conservation awareness. Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: Common-pool resource (CPR) theory, social-ecological systems (SES) framework & collective action theory may be used to anchor future studies on the effectiveness of community-based water conservation programs on groundwater levels in Argentina. Integrating indigenous knowledge systems and traditional water stewardship practices can enhance the effectiveness and cultural relevance of conservation programs. Offering financial incentives, training grants, or matching funds for community-led conservation initiatives can lower participation barriers and encourage broader engagement.
