China has reduced its energy bill thanks to Russian oil discounts

Abstract

In response to European sanctions, Russia has redirected some of its crude oil exports to other countries, notably China. China has thus benefited from a discount on the price of its Russian oil imports, showing that the impact of sanctions has gone beyond flows between Russia and Europe alone. Face aux sanctions européennes, la Russie a réorienté une partie de ses exportations de pétrole brut vers d’autres pays, notamment la Chine. Ainsi, la Chine a bénéficié d’une décote sur le prix de ses importations de pétrole russe, indiquant que l’impact des sanctions s’est étendu au-delà des seuls flux entre la Russie et l’Europe.
