Abstract

This book review examines "The Thematic Encyclopedia of Regional Science", edited by Peter Nijkamp, Karima Kourtit, Kingsley E. Haynes, and Zeynep Elburz. The Encyclopedia offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary synthesis of the concepts, theories, and analytical tools that define Regional Science. Structured around seven major thematic domains—space and time; actors and society; goods and markets; services and economy; transport and interactions; governance and policy; and methods and techniques—the volume provides over 300 expert-written entries covering topics such as spatial economics, urban and regional development, environmental sustainability, innovation systems, transport and mobility, spatial econometrics, and place-based policy. Praised by leading scholars, the Encyclopedia serves as an essential reference for students, researchers, policymakers, and professionals seeking to understand the spatial dimensions of contemporary economic, social, and environmental transformations.
