Role Of Entrepreneurial Orientation On Performance Of Micro, Small, And Medium Enterprise (Msme) In The Creative Industry In Makadara Constituency Nairobi City County

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of entrepreneurial orientation on performance of MSMEs in the creative industry in Makadara constituency Nairobi County. Methodology: The study employed a descriptive research design. The target population of this study comprised of 7000 MSMEs entrepreneurs in Makadara Constituency. Fishers' formula was used to obtain the number of the respondents (96) who were later sampled using simple random sampling. The total unit of analysis was 96 respondents. Data gathered from correctly filled questionnaires was coded, tabulated and analyzed using SPSS version 22 by both descriptive statistics which included mean and standard deviation to capture the characteristics of the variables under study. Inferential statistics was also used to analyze the relationship of the dependent and the independent variable. Results: The study found that there were four factors that influenced growth of Micro Medium and Small Enterprises in Makadara Constituency. These factors were innovativeness, pro-activeness, risk taking, autonomy and competitive aggressiveness. The correlation result revealed that innovativeness (0.000), risk taking (p=0.000), pro-activeness (p=0.000) autonomy (p=0.000) and competitive aggressiveness (p=0.000) all had statistically significant relationship with growth of MMSEs. The regression results revealed that innovativeness, pro-activeness, risk taking, autonomy and competitive aggressiveness all had statistically significant relationship with growth of MMSEs. Policy recommendation: The study recommends that the policy makers and entrepreneurs should provide valuable information towards entrepreneurship development of micro medium and small enterprises and should put in place measures to help the MMSEs entrepreneurs to overcome stagnation. The study suggests in future, another study may be done using other variables. It would be advisable if a replica study is conducted in another African country
